We love it at the Village Inn, nothing too fancy, they dont try to be something they're not. Great easy uncomplicated food. Sausages to die for and their recent Beat the Freeze for £5.95 was a real winner. Its great for us to go there when I cannot be bothered to cook at home, its close, the ambience is great, plenty of bon-homie and we always feel welcome. A lovely village pub atmosphere. Don't change a thing, its great as it is. Thank you

My husband and I accompanied by our adult daughter visited this pub on Wednesday 28th December in the late afternoon having been for a walk on Sidmouth beach. We were absolutely delighted at the quality of the food. We had a Monkfish special, a Sea Bass on crushed new potatoes and a Belly Pork dish with vegetable side dishes. We all cleared our plates and then indulged in the delicious home made desserts. Wonderful! My daughter commented that it was the first time she had been out for a meal with us and we had no complaints whatsoever. As regular Michelin Star diners that is saying something. Well done! We visit the Tiverton area regularly from Coventry as this is where my daughter lives. Keep up the good work we will be back.

Along with my cycling buddy Billy Jackson, I came across The Coffee Bean during our charity bike ride from Lands End to John O'Groats. Our initial impression was that this a particularly clean venue to enjoy an Allday Brekkie! We were not to be disappointed, the husband and wife team were most friendly and all facilities [including toilets] were spotless. When the all day brekkie, with chips, arrived it was sumptuous, no sign of grease, and was washed down with an excellent cappo!! Despite being early into our 10 day ride we voted The Coffee Bean the best Breakfast stop on the journey. So we make it number 1 in The UK! With our water bottles replenished we left revitalised. The Coffee Bean is a must for people tackling Le Jog or anyone visiting Tiverton.

Herbies, Exeter
Review by Joss Hibbs on 1 December 2011
Rating: 5Rating: 5Rating: 5Rating: 5Rating: 5

As a vegetarian who doesn't eat dairy, I fell through the door of Herbies with heavy relief. Eateries in the south west are so very limited in vegetarian options, and those offered ALWAYS involve buckets of cheese. But, at last, I found a place in Herbies which offers vegetarian food cooked by vegetarians, rather than disgruntled, gurdging carnivores. The menu is entirely vegetarian - the Vs next to selected dishes mark vegan meals, to boot. I had a simple burger, wedges and salad at lunchtime, and it was v tasty indeed. The menu is extensive and homemade, and it's not only veggies who would enjoy the food here. The staff were cheerful and welcoming, and most of the clientele when I visited were clearly regulars - always a good sign.

Rating: 4Rating: 4Rating: 4Rating: 4Rating: 4

So, you are a vegetarian or a vegan? Finding vegetarian food when eating out is becoming easier these days although choice is often limited to spicy bean-burgers and little else. However, finding vegan food is still very difficult indeed. Herbies restaurant is one which specializes in vegetarian and vegan food and provides a good choice of food of excellent quality. I cannot recommend this restaurant highly enough. Is it perfect? Well, no, but my only criticisms are it does not open late enough for evening meals and it only offers soya milk as an option to cow's milk. It would be better if oat milk and rice milk were options. However, those points aside, it is refreshing to find a place which cares about people who do not eat meat or dairy produce and gives them a great choice.

We first visited The Yard Arm, Plymouth Hoe on 6 November 2011, for Sunday Lunch, and to sample their real ales. We were not disappointed. We opted for their small portions menu, to save a few pennies, but the portions were anything but small. I had the roast beef Sunday Lunch, and my wife had the horseshoe gammon. First class, and washed down with a pint of Legend. i was offered a couple of samples by the barmaid, prior to buying Legend. It was a wonderful, clean, fresh real ale. First class pub, first class ales, first class food and first class staff.

Rating: 5Rating: 5Rating: 5Rating: 5Rating: 5

Best meal I've had in Devon. My wife and I ate here on the last night of our honeymoon and it made for a lovely final evening. She had the carvery which was opulent, succulent and included the most delicious gammon we'be ever had. I had the sirloin steak which was cooked just right (unlike most places in Britain that simply don't believe you really want medium rare!).

The beers were very, very nice and the service excellent - I rarely tip but felt compelled on this occasion.

The feel and decor is that of a friendly local's pub with all the physical and atmospheric comfort that one could wish for at the end of any day.

If we're ever back in the area we will make certain to return.

Started with the fantastic Brixham scallops, large and juicy accompanied by delicious warm bread. Followed on with the seafood platter to share. Simply cooked the taste of the fish was allowed to shine, only downside is the fish is unfilleted making serving between 2 a bit awkward but this just added to the fun. Huge wedge of yummy cheesecake to follow. Reasonably priced given the quality of the food. Would definately return next time we're in the area.

Extremely and I mean extremely good, helpful, genuine pleasant staff. They must be picked for their personalities and then trained accordingly . They made such a refreshing change from the normal service on offer in too many places in Devon. The food was excellent and as a very demanding coeliac I could not have been in safer hands. We have recommended it to many and am happy to say everyone shares our views -thank you .

Wonderful little gem tucked just off Fore Street with views over the rooftops to the sea and harbour. Thoroughly enjoyable glass of wine on the terrace, overlooking the view, before retiring into the restaurant for a mixture of dishes.
Food was lovely, wine was delicious and the ambience is great. We particulary loved the photographs, pictures and decor. Made it very cosy and romantic. Service friendly and efficient. We'll definitely be back.

Never written a review online before but had to just pop on a few words after eating out at this Inn - best risotto I've ever had!! I'm a bit of a fussy eater and I even took my one year old along for the meal, with an expectation that it probably wouldn't go well (disapproving looks from other diners etc) but it was fabulous. The waitress was friendly and the cosy nature of the seating meant my little boy had soon charmed all of the other lovely diners, and because service was swift, he didn't have time to throw a tantrum. Not many restaurants can deliver good food, good service and be welcoming to families - so thank you and to anyone looking for a place to eat in this part of Devon - I highly recommend it, be it for a family, a romantic couple or just good food connoisseurs!

As a group of four we ate here twice during a period of seven days, sampling many of the excellent dishes. We highly recommend this restaurant for the food and the service from the charming staff and chef. It's nice to be able to see into the kichen and see the man at work!

I appreciate a good curry & this is a restaurant who serves excellent curry. The special rice was enough for 2 people, the curry itself Chilli Balti(extra hot) was done to perfection. I live over 15 miles away, but will be frequenting The Bay of Bengal regularly.

I was on holiday in North Devon with my family and passed this pub on the way into Ilfracombe and it was advertising an 'all you can eat' buffet breakfast. We decided to give it a try. It was 11.30 am and breafast stopped being served at 11.30 am. We were given a very warm welcome and was told it wasn't too late to eat. The breakfast was one of the best we had and was fanastic value for money. On paying the bill, we were given a very generous discount as they said 'it wasn't up to our usual standard as it was so late'. We couldn't fault it, it was hot and there was plenty to choose from. We would certainly visit this pub again when on holiday and would highly recommend it.

Went to the Terrace Tapas Bar on 10th August for my 40th Birthday Bash.
There was a combination of Adults and children (of which 5 had never tried Tapas before).
Needless to say the food was excellent, as usual and plentiful, everyone enjoyed the food, and were extremely surprised how affordable/cheap it was.
Would recommend to anyone who lives in or are visiting the North Devon area.
Cannot emphasise how nice the food is.... you've gotta try it :)
